ADMISSIONS

What is a new student?

New students are students who have NOT attended Dallas Colleges Online or Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake, or Richland Colleges.

What is a continuing student?

Continuing students are students who were enrolled in the previous long semester (fall or spring) or summer session of any Dallas Community College or Dallas Colleges Online.

I’ve been told that I need to complete a degree plan, how do I do that?

First take a look at the degrees and certificates we offer. When you have selected the degree you would like to pursue, please complete this degree plan request form and fax/scan/mail the request form to:

What are the prerequisites for registration?

  • SOC Agreement (Servicemembers Opportunity College)
  • Student Agreement/Degree plan - You must call us at 972-669-6400 or 888-468-4268 and get a degree plan on file with us. A degree plan must be on file with us in order for you to receive any veteran or financial aid benefits.
  • Texas Success Initiative - This is an assessment of students' basic skills in reading, mathematics, and writing.
  • Computer Skills Test - Required unless you meet certain criteria.
  • College Readiness Assessment
  • EDUC 1300 - This course may or may not be required depending on whether you meet certain criteria.

Financial Aid

Which classes am I financially covered for? Are there any exceptions?

Yes. The classes for which you will receive either tuition assistance or veterans affairs benefits must follow the degree plan of your choice.

My spouse is in the military. Am I covered for any kind of financial assistance to cover my schooling?

The Department of Defense's expanded Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts program (MyCAA) will provide up to $4,000 of financial assistance for military spouses who are pursuing associate degree programs, licenses or credentials leading to employment in portable career fields.

Do you offer any scholarships?

Yes. The Picquet Military Scholarship, the Ted Pohrte Distance Learning Scholarship and the LeCroy Scholars Program.

Are student loans available?

Where do I find deadlines for financial aid?

If you plan to attend fall only, or fall and spring semesters...

The priority deadline for submitting your FAFSA application is May 1. Your financial aid file with all supporting documentation should be completed and ready for file review by July 30*.

If you plan to attend only the spring semester...

The priority deadline for submitting your FAFSA application is October 1. Your financial aid file with all supporting documentation should be completed and ready for file review by November 30*.

If you plan to begin attending the DCCCD for the Summer I term...

The priority deadline for submitting your FAFSA application is April 1. You must also complete and submit a Summer Supplemental Application by April 30. Your financial aid file with all supporting documentation should be completed and ready for file review by April 30*.

*Students who meet these deadlines will be notified by the start of the semester of their eligibility and approval of financial aid. If these deadlines are missed, the student will be expected to make payment arrangements with the Cashier's Office using personal resources at the time of registration (a payment plan is available). Late aid applications will be processed for aid as it becomes available after registration closes. Most scholarship programs have individual deadlines that must be met in order to be considered for an award from a particular scholarship program. Program deadlines may supersede the general deadlines given above.

What is Tuition Assistance (TA)?

Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% for the tuition expenses of its members.

Where do I apply for Tuition Assistance (TA)?

If you are eligible for Tuition Assistance (TA), please see your TA counselor at the Education Center on base to proceed through the TA process and register for a course. You may fax the approved TA voucher to:

Can a Military Spouse get Tuition Assistance - MyCAA?

Who is eligible for MyCAA?

Spouses of active duty service members in pay grades E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2, as well as the spouses of activated Guard and Reserve members within those ranks. Spouses of Guard and Reserve members must be able to start and complete their courses while their sponsor is on Title 10 orders.

Note: The MyCAA program does not include Coast Guard spouses

What does MyCAA pay for?

MyCAA Financial Assistance (FA) funding is limited to only Associate's degrees, certifications and licensure programs.

How to get started with MyCAA?

Eligible spouses can establish a MyCAA Account by visiting the MyCAA website. Once spouse Profile information is provided, MyCAA will verify spouse DEERS benefit eligibility. Eligible spouses will be allowed to create their Career and Training Plan and request FA when they are within 30 days of course start dates. Additionally, spouses are responsible for applying to their selected school or program and enrolling in each course included in their approved MyCAA Career and Training Plan.



REGISTRATION

Where do I find a list of classes available for me to take at distance? Do I need a degree plan?

A list of available online courses can be found at http://online.dcccd.edu/schedule.html. Remember that you will also need a degree plan and a SOC agreement.

How do I register for classes?

How much is tuition and when is payment due?

Tuition and fees can be found on the current tuition schedule. Dates will vary depending on the date that classes begin. Important dates and deadlines can be found on the academic calendar.

What kind of financial aid or tuition assistance is available?

How do I get books for my courses?

To find out what books you need for the courses you’ve enrolled in, consult the current book list. When it comes to securing your textbooks, you have a couple of options. You can either purchase books through MBS Books (for phone orders call 1-800-325-3252) You can also take advantage of our new option to rent textbooks at http://www.rent-a-text.com/.

Can I complete any of this online?

Yes. Setting up an account with eConnect will gives you access to a variety of DCCCD student information.

TRANSFERRING

What is the process for sending my transcripts?

The first step in the process is to order official, (signed and sealed) transcripts from each college or institution you've previously attended. Please have them sent to the attention of a military advisor:

While we await your official transcripts, you may send the military advisor an unofficial copy of your transcripts. This will enable us to determine whether or not you've met certain prerequisite criteria. Scan or fax this information to a military advisor at:

Do I need to submit official military transcripts as well?

Yes. We need official military transcripts from SMART, AARTS, CCAF, etc.



VETERANS

Who do I need to talk to about my GI Bill?

Please contact a VA certify official at one of the DCCCD campuses.

What documentation will the certifying officials need?

Remember, before submitting your documentation to a certifying official, you will also have to complete various forms through the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

What online classes are available for me?

Check out the various online classes offered, but remember you will need a degree plan.

Can I receive financial aid and GI Bill Benefits?

There is currently no restriction on getting both. However, when applying for Pell, there is a question regarding VA benefits. If you did receive them from the time frame asked, you want to make sure and put a $ amount in that section.
